What Affects the Cost of Your Move

Not a price list — an honest look at what actually moves the number, before your free home visit.

This isn't a price list — we don't think a genuine figure can be given without seeing your home, which is exactly why every quote starts with a free home visit. What follows is an honest breakdown of what actually moves the number up or down, so you know what to expect before your consultant visits.

The size of your home

The biggest single factor. More rooms and more furniture means more time, more crew, and often a bigger vehicle — all of which affect the price. A one-bedroom flat and a five-bedroom house are different jobs in almost every respect.

Distance

A move across town costs less than a move across the country, largely down to travel time and whether the crew can fit in more than one job that day. Long-distance and overnight moves are priced differently to local ones.

Access at both properties

Stairs, narrow doorways, long carries from the van to the front door, parking restrictions, and whether there's a lift all add time — and time is the main driver of cost. This is one of the biggest reasons a phone quote is unreliable: none of it is visible without seeing the property.

How much packing you need

Packing everything yourself costs less than a full packing service, and a part-pack (just the kitchen, or just fragile items) sits in between. Quality materials matched to what you own are part of any packing service we provide — see our packing service page.

Time of year and day of the week

Summer, school-holiday periods, and weekends are the busiest times for removals generally, and demand affects availability and price. Moving mid-week or outside peak season can work out more cost-effective if your dates are flexible.

Additional services

Storage, furniture dismantling and reassembly, and specialist handling for high-value or awkward items (pianos, antiques, fine furniture) are priced as part of your overall quote once your consultant knows what's involved.

What doesn't change: the quote itself

Whatever the final figure, it's given to you after someone has actually walked your property — not estimated over the phone and adjusted on the day. That's the point of the home visit: the price you're quoted is the price you pay.
